Oh Dragon, My Dragon

This is the first year in 5 years that I will not be spending Labor Day Weekend at Dragon*Con.

Nor will I be in England, which trip was the reason for cancelling Dragon*Con.

This has been the sucky “year of failed plans” as far as that kind of thing goes.

We were supposed to go to California…  Funding and a major depression episode pretty much derailed that plan.

We were going to spend a weekend in NYC… that got cancelled because of an impending death in the family.

We were supposed to NOT have to go to spend time at the beach house in Florida this year.  We ended up having to do that because of the memorial service.

I was supposed to be at Dragon*Con this weekend, I cancelled those plans because I was offered a free trip to England.

I was supposed to go to England, but that was cancelled due to major house repairs that needed to be done.

SO… kind of in a funk about that right now.  Looks like the highlight of this weekend will probably be chinese food.  Hey – at least it’s exotic.

We are supposed to go camping in September.  We have a trip booked to NYC in October.  So – I am looking forward to seeing how the universe conspires to cancel those :(

Is it too early to start wishing for 2013 to come around so I can put this year behind me?

Go Go Go!

Going to the LA office on Monday for meetings… then from there to Dallas on Wednesday and not getting home until 9:30 Thursday night. I love going to NYC for work… But this trip? Not so much.

There is at least one bright spot… http://www.hardeightbbq.com/

Oh… The Hard Eight BBQ! Seriously must be the best Q in the country and since the “Dallas” office is in Coppel and practically NEXT DOOR to this joint… Well at least if I have jet lag and interminable meetings, I also get smoked turkey nuggets wrapped in bacon and corn bread salad!

Can’t Talk… Eating

It is only day two of the training week.

Maude Have Mercy, it is going to be a long week.

Dry material?  No… the Sahara desert is dry. This material simply doesn’t compare.

Normally if I am out for a week long training or something similar, I don’t fall into the need for copious amounts of caffeine and sugar until Thursday at the least.

But this week – man – Tuesday and I’m already on two cocoas in the day.  Sometimes caffeine and sugar are the only things getting us through.

Also feeling bad because I feel like I’ve been eating crap since Friday (which I have been).

The SB is going home tomorrow AM, and I think once I am on my own, I’ll feel less like this is “vacation” and be able to exercise some self control.

Cake on Sunday, Cheesecake on Monday, Giant cookie tonight.  Chinese food, Deli, etc. etc. Were they all excellent and yummy?  You bet!  But let’s face it – treats are not really supposed to be an everyday event – Four days of crazy eating and I need to go back to something that at least resembles “healthy”

So now off to study some more of this stuff so I can pass the certification test on Friday!

Start Spreadin’ The News…

OK, so I’m not leaving today…  but still.  A plan has been made!  Tickets have been bought!  A hotel has been booked!

As often happens at the end of a fiscal year, careful scrimping, saving and not-spending have left my department with a bit of wiggle room left in the budget.

Enough wiggle room, it appears, for me to take some long-requested training leading to a certification in my field – certification which I will not mention, being as how I try to not put anything on here that might bring company searches this way.

But anyway.  The upside of this is that the training is in NYC. This means that my company is going to be buying me a plane ticket and a week in a hotel up there.

And since that’s going to happen, why not fly up super early on Sunday, instead of late? And since the hotel room will be there and all… why not spend personal $$ on a ticket for the SB who can also sleep in that hotel for no extra cost to anyone.

OK, so it’s not exactly a “vacation” except for the Sunday, but still, the SB will get to do all kinds of things during the day while I am in the training, and we’ll be able to at least go out to dinner in NYC – food capital of the world!!!  (and my dinner will even be expensed! – means separate checks, of course)

So… now the hard part… where to eat?

Gotta have Deli… but Katz’s or Stage?  (Or, heck, Carnegie – never been there!)

Gotta have pizza – think I’ll contact one of our NYC employees to find the “best” place for that (opinions may vary, of course)

I think I’d like to go eat in China Town.

But then, we ARE going to be staying in Chelsea… tons of famous little store-front places there too!  Oh what to do, what to do?
