No Celery Please – NYC Edition!

Everything Must Go!

Posted in Uncategorized by noceleryplease on February 17, 2008

OK, so not everything, but some things.

After an entire hour at lunch yesterday spent telling the SB that we didn’t really need to have a new TV… that our existing TV was just fine… We went to the Best Buy and the sales lady there sold me a SWEET new 42″ flat screen LCD from the fine people at the HP company.  It was on clearance for $500 off – how could I refuse!? (I ADORE Tax returns!)

It should be delivered today.  Hopefully… they haven’t called yet with our delivery window.  But she said it would be today.

So, in honor of dismantling everything in our TV area, we decided that as we have not watched anything on VHS for about two years, we are going to get rid of the VCR and go strictly to DVD.  This means we will have to replace some of our favorites with DVDs… but that’s the way of it.  There are still things I have on casette tape that I’d like to switch to CD, after all.

Anyway… what this all means is a big pile of VHS movies is going to go to the Goodwill.

I thought, well, perhaps you folks out there in Internat land might still have VCRs and might want a couple of these before they go.

So… if you’d like any of the following movies, let me know and I would be happy to mail them to you.

  • Jesus Christ Super Star
  • Men In Black
  • Funny Thing Happened on the way to the forum
  • Independence Day
  • Life of Brian
  • Blazing Saddles
  • Galaxy Quest
  • Conan the Barbarian
  • Conan the Destroyer
  • Young Frankenstein
  • Austin Powers – The Spy Who Shagged Me
  • Austin Powers – International Man of Mystery
  • Monty Python – The Entire Series (this is 21 tapes… if you want this, I’m gonna have to ask you to maybe cover the shipping 🙂
  • Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
  • Stand By Me
  • Dead Poets Society
  • The Big Lebowski
  • Apollo 13
  • Star Trek – Insurrection
  • Indigo Girls – Live at the uptown lounge
  • Gypsy!
  • Into the Woods
  • Braveheart
  • MASH
  • Animal Crackers
  • The 39 Steps
  • Wild Wild West (don’t laugh, it was on clearance for, like, a buck)
  • The Right Stuff
  • Mr. Saturday Night
  • Three Kings
  • 12 Monkeys
  • Robin Hood (the Kevin Costner one)
  • Raiders of the lost ark
  • Star Wars / Empire Strikes Back / Return of the Jedi
Like I said – haven’t watched any of these in a couple of years – but I assume they all still work. That’s the main reason I’m not gonna try to sell them on ebay or anything… I’d have to actually watch them all first to make sure, which is a lot of watching!

    Excellent collection.

We’re planning on purging our VHS collection this year as well.

I’m pretty sure that no one wants old tapes of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Farscape or Biodome…

[I am thrilled to see that the Indigo Girls have concert footage, though!]

    What, no BETA or 8-tracks?

I already have a couple of drawers full of VHS tapes that I never watch.

The next big decision: HD or BLU-RAY?

  4. If you were super motivated, you could get a recordable DVD player and hook it to a VHS, then transfer your movies to DVD. That’s what we’ve been doing and then we get rid of the tape. 🙂

You panicked me a little with the post title, becasue THAT’S what you called the last blogger post. Yikes!

No need for tapes here – I’m all DVD now. Good luck getting rid of them!

Not all dvd yet, well, actually, just starting, really. But heavens no, no more vhs tapes. The son moved some months ago and I still have many of his cast-offs.

“Free Willy”, ” Batman, Mask of the Phatasm” & all the “Lethal Weapons” just to name a few.

    Much luck.

Once you get used to the high-def, which takes about 2 seconds–you’ll never want to watch even normal DVDs again, let alone VHS tapes. I bought my high-def set a little over a month ago and I’m still amazed at the picture.
